Reading care home hosting FREE community open week

The care team and residents at Friends Place, are looking forward to welcoming their families, friends, visitors and members of the local Calcot and Reading community to join them in a fun, fully inclusive, accessible and interactive week of exciting and engaging activities – and the chance to take a tour of the fantastic care home, the warm and inviting place the residents call ‘Their Home’.

“As part of our on-going promise and commitment to keep all the residents engaged with, and part of, the local community, and to champion this year’s Care Home Open Week, we will be hosting a week of free, fun and entertaining activities and be on hand to give visitors tours of the care home,” said Alina Gutu, the General Manager at Friends Place.

“This year, Care Home Open Week falls during the World Cup Tournament, and as it is the 60th Anniversary of England’s outstanding two, four win over Germany back in 1966, the activities taking place will have a ‘Footie-tastic’ focus,” added Elisha Hall-Jones, the Activities Coordinator at the care home.

Taking place on from Monday 15th June until Friday 19th June, under the banner of ‘Care is Coming Home’, visitors will be able to join the residents in a wide range of enjoyable and inclusive activities. “We’ll have football-focused arts and crafts, gentle exercise classes including a session with Reading’s Move Ball Group, a visit from Chester, our Pets as Therapy Dog, a Table-top Footie competition with the children from Calcot School and entertainment courtesy of local performer ‘Angie’ – as well as free refreshments and tours of Friends Place,” continued Elisha.

“In addition to all the ‘Footie-tastic’ activities, we will also be hosting tours of our great facilities which will give us a wonderful opportunity to show visitors, first hand, what life is like at Friends Place,” added Alina. “The tours will take in our beautiful, landscaped gardens, dining rooms, sunny and comfortable lounges, our state-of-the-art Cinema Room, Beauty Salon, Garden Room and our very own Bar and, of course, the care team and I will be on hand to answer any questions visitors may have.”

“Visitors will also be able to see our kind, dedicated and caring care team in action as they deliver individualised bespoke, person-centred care to each resident and respite guest,” continued Elisha.

“At Friends Place we are a family and have created a welcoming, caring and safe environment where our residents and respite guests can, and do, live well every day,” added Alina.

“In addition to residential, we offer a day care service and respite breaks and have received so many lovely reviews covering all three areas. We recently heard from a resident’s wife saying that Friends Place is outstanding in every way; and another from the daughter of a resident who said she was delighted with the wonderful care and respect shown to her and her fellow residents on a daily basis by the care team. She went on to say how all the team are kind, patient and deeply committed to the wellbeing of each resident through the provision of highly personalised support, which is so wonderful and rewarding to hear.”

“A new resident began his care journey with us following a month’s respite break. Following a review, he is now a permanent member of the Friends Place family. His wife said how impressed she was with the care team for the fantastic, personalised care, which included creating a growing area for him outside his patio door,” continued Elisha.

“Everyone at Friends Place is excited to be hosting a week full of interactive, inclusive, intergenerational and motivational activities and welcoming members of the community, friends – old and new, family members, prospective residents and respite guests to what will be a ‘Goal-den’ week for everyone.

“We hope that during the Care Home Open Week from Monday 15th June to Friday 19th June, visitors not only have a wonderful time, but see, first-hand just what a great place and a great team we are here at Friends Place,” concluded Alina.
