To mark this year’s World Cup Football Tournament, celebrate England’s memorable 1966 cup win and champion Care Home Open Week 2026, the residents and care team at Redcot, our Haslemere-based residential care home, will be hosting a free Community Sports Day Spectacular.
“From 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday 20th June, we will transform Redcot’s beautiful gardens into a sports arena which will rival Wembley,” said Latasha Jarrett, the Registered Manager at the care home. “We will be setting the scene and creating the perfect space for our inaugural Community Sports Day, which will not only celebrate this year’s World Cup Tournament, but also mark the 60th Anniversary of England’s 1966 World Cup victory.
“The Sports Day will also coincide with this year’s Care Home Open Week, so will give us a great opportunity to show visitors, prospective residents and respite guests our beautiful home, great facilities and the wide range of activities that are on offer here at Redcot.”
Redcot’s free Community Sports Day will have a fun-filled programme of different activities and races for everyone to enjoy and take part in. “All the races will be fully inclusive, accessible and suitable for all ages to enjoy and tailored to meet everyone’s individual capabilities,” added Jenny Ryder, one of the Activities Coordinators at Redcot.
“We’ll have timeless races, reminiscent of the residents’ school days, such as The Egg and Spoon Race, alongside other fun games such as The Granny Pants Game. There will be other sporting competitions taking place as well, such as The Shot Put, Weightlifting, Table Tennis and much more, with great prizes to be won.”
“Visitors can come as a team, or join a team when they arrive, the choice is theirs,” continued Latasha. “The residents and care team are already talking about their teams, and we have also invited children from a local school to come along and join in the fun which makes for a wonderful intergenerational experience for the residents to enjoy as well.”
“For the residents, taking part in the Community Sports Day will provide a range of significant physical, social, and psychological benefits,” added Jenny. “The event will be in a fun, safe environment where they can be active and socialise. By joining in with the races and games, the residents will continue to improve their physical fitness which helps with many things including enhancing balance, building strength and flexibility. Furthermore, being part of a team will give the residents the opportunity to make new friends, meet new people, build new relationships and catch-up with their friends and families.”
Redcot’s very own pub – The Redcot Arms – will be open serving refreshing drinks to keep everyone hydrated and there will be plenty of comfortable seating around the care home’s gardens and patio area for those who would rather relax and cheer on the competitors.
“The Community Sports Day will also be the perfect opportunity for visitors to experience life at Redcot, see how much fun the residents have – every day – and meet the care team and see how they deliver individualised bespoke, person-centred care to each resident and respite guest,” added Latasha.
“The care team and I will also be on hand to give tours to visitors who would like to see our lovely home. Visitors will see how spacious, elegant and airy our rooms are, our cheerful communal areas – which are ideal for entertaining family and friends – and our lovely lounge which is a great place to relax or socialise,” continued Latasha.
“Each member of our compassionate and kind care team is devoted to delivering high quality care to each of our residents and respite guest they care for; their wellbeing, care and safety is at the heart of all we do.
“In fact, a resident’s family member recently left us a review saying how happy they were that their Mother settled into Redcot very quickly and that they can see she is being well cared for, is safe and how very much she enjoys the meals and daily activities. The review also said how all the staff members care, are kind and thoughtful and already know their Mother’s every need. We hope that on 20th June, visitors to our free Community Sports Day Spectacular, not only have a wonderful time, but see, first-hand just what a great place and a great team we are here at Redcot.” Latasha concluded.
