Residents at New Copford Place Care Home enjoy an intergenerational Easter

Residents at New Copford Place, our Colchester-based residential care home, enjoyed an ‘Egg-cellent’ Easter celebration when they were visited by The 1st Layer-de-la-Haye Brownies. “As part of our continuing promise to keep the residents engaged with, and part of, the local community, we invited The 1st Layer-de-la-Haye Brownies to come along and spend an afternoon at the care home with them,” said Chelsey Leather, the Activities Coordinator at New Copford Place.

“It was an ‘Egg-citing’ afternoon,” continued Chelsey. “The Brownies very kindly became our very own Easter Gardeners, and planted a lovely selection of flowers and bulbs, which the residents will thoroughly enjoy and admire once the come into bloom.”

Once the Brownies had finished their planting duties, they relaxed and enjoyed some tasty snacks and refreshments whilst chatting to the residents. “To reward them for all their hard work and gardening efforts, once the Brownies had finished their nibbles, they took part in an ‘Egg-stra’ special Easter Egg Hunt around the care home’s lovely gardens,” added Chelsey. “They all had lots of fun, running around and finding their eggs and were very pleased to be leaving with chocolate and an Easter Activity pack.”

“It is exceptionally, or should I say ‘Egg-ceptionally’ good for the residents to spend time with younger people such as the Brownies,” continued Chelsey. “Alongside the enjoyment and fun they have, intergenerational activities and spending time with the younger generation provides significant mental, emotional, and physical health benefits to them. “The regular interactions with the various young groups who visit New Copford Place, help the residents to continue to feel connected to the local community whilst, at the same time, helping and improving their mental and emotional wellbeing.”

“Spending quality time with children boosts the residents’ cognitive functions and always seem to spark chats, bringing back happy memories as well,” added Chelsey.

“The residents and The 1st Layer-de-la-Haye Brownies all had an ‘Egg-ceptionally’ ‘Hoppy’ Eastertime together, and we are all looking forward to their next visit,” concluded Chelsey.
