At Redcot, our Haslemere-based residential care home, the residents and care team are getting ‘Egg-cited’ for their forthcoming community Easter fun-filled day which includes an Alice in Wonderland-themed, Mad Hatter’s Easter Tea Party.
“On Thursday 2nd April from 1 p.m., Redcot will be hosting an ‘Eggs-traordinary’, fun-filled afternoon,” said Latasha Jarrett, the Registered Manager at the care home. “As part of our ongoing commitment to keep the residents involved with, and part of, the local community, we will be holding an Alice in Wonderland Easter Experience. We’d like everyone to come along in fancy dress – the more Cheshire Cats, Tweedle-Dums, Tweedle-Dees, Queen of Hearts, Alices, and White Rabbits the better – and the day will be topped off with our very own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.”
The ‘Egg-cellent’ community event will open at 1 p.m. when Redcot’s Wonderland Easter Egg Hunt will begin. “There will be plenty of Easter Eggs hidden around our secure and beautiful gardens for children – and adults – to discover,” continued Jenny Ryder, one of the Activity Coordinators at Redcot.
“We’ll also have an ‘Egg-septional’ Magician, Silly Scott, who will be conjuring up magic tricks to rival the Mad Hatter’s own, plus Easter-themed arts and crafts and, of course, the ‘Egg-uberant’ tea party.”
“Everyone at Redcot is looking forward to the Alice in Wonderland community event,” added Latasha. “The residents always amaze me with their knowledge and trivia facts – they never disappoint and I seem to learn something new every day.
“We were chatting about the Easter event in one of our regular reminiscing sessions, and the residents shared their memories of reading Lewis Carroll’s classic tale and some interesting details behind the story. One resident told us that allegedly, after Queen Victoria read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, she loved it so much that she subtly suggested to Mr Carroll that he dedicated his next book to her. Not wanting to disappoint the Queen he did. However, his next literary work was entitled ‘An Elementary Treatise on Determinants, With Their Application to Simultaneous Linear Equations and Algebraic Equations’. I said that I didn’t think that’s quite what she expected.”
“Everyone at Redcot is looking forward to our community Easter event and welcoming our neighbours, members of the local community, relatives, friends and loved ones to the care home on Thursday 2nd April to what is shaping up to be an ‘Egg-Stravaganza’’ afternoon not to be missed,” concluded Latasha.
