Easter fun springs into action at Friends of the Elderly Malvern Care Home

On Saturday 4th April between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m, Friends of the Elderly’s Malvern-based Davenham, Perrins House and Bradbury Court, the residential, nursing and dementia care homes which are collectively known as Friends of the Elderly Malvern, will be hosting an ‘Egg-stra’ special, free, fun-filled community Easter event.

“On Saturday 4th April from 2 p.m., the beautiful grounds at Friends of the Elderly Malvern will be ‘Egg-spertly’ transformed into an Easter Chocolate ‘Egg-stravaganza’ that even Willie Wonka would be proud of,” said Jo Bennett, the General Manager of the care homes.

“For our ‘Eggs-traordinary’, fun-filled afternoon, the Easter Bunny has promised to hide an ‘Egg-cessive’’ stash of delicious Easter Eggs throughout our stunning and accessible grounds for members of our community and local children to come along and find,” added Dawn Jones, the Activities Coordinator at Davenham.

“To build on our promise to the residents that we are committed to keeping them engaged with, and part of, the local community, we host a wide variety of community events throughout the year, and our Easter Egg Hunt is always an ‘Egg-stra’ special favourite with everyone,” continued Jo. The residents are ‘Egg-ceptionally’ good Easter Egg aficionados too. “We were talking about Easter and favourite Easter Eggs at one of our regular reminiscing sessions and, as ever, the residents never cease to amaze me,” added Dawn.

“One resident told me that the first chocolate Easter Eggs were produced in the UK by Fry’s of Bristol way back in 1873 and that roughly 80 million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK each year – that’s a lot of chocolate!”

“Another resident told the group that the tradition of decorating eggs is thousands of years old and that 5,000 years ago, the Egyptians began decorating Ostrich eggs with gold and silver. However, that’s not all – the resident also added that in 1290, King Edward I ordered 450 eggs to be decorated with lots of colours or gold leaf which he then gave as presents to his household,” continued Selena Whittaker, the Activities Coordinator at Perrins House.

The Easter jokes are also in full springtime swing. “The residents all have a great sense of humour, and the Easter gags are in full flow,” said Jo. “So far, my two favourite rib-ticklers have to be ‘What do you call a mischievous Easter Egg? A Practical Yolker,’ and ‘Why shouldn’t you tell an Easter Egg a joke? It might crack up.’ I’m sure I’ll have a few more favourites by the time Easter arrives.

“Everyone at Friends of the Elderly Malvern is looking forward to our community Easter Egg event and welcoming our neighbours, members of the local community, relatives, friends and loved ones to the care home on Saturday 4th April to what is shaping up to be an ‘Egg-citing’ afternoon, we ‘Carrot’ wait,” concluded Jo.
