Residents at Little Bramingham Farm, our Luton-based residential care home, have had a lovely, calming and relaxing time celebrating this years’ Time to Talk Day, enjoying their regular beauty treatments with Beauty Therapist, Jess Spriddle. “Last September, knowing how much the residents enjoy a pamper session, the opportunity to relax, enjoy a good old-fashioned natter and put the world to rights, we arranged for Jess to visit every other week to provide a regular Spa experience,” said Emma Lawrance, the Registered Manager at the care home.
“Jess has been visiting the residents for over six months and to ensure they all enjoy the full beauty salon experience, we adapted our Log Cabin, transforming it into our very own tranquil oasis.
The Log Cabin, which is located in our beautiful grounds, was originally built to host visits during Covid and after, became an additional space for Susie’s Tea Room. It’s a wonderful, fully accessible place, which the residents adore,” added Karen Charity, Little Bramingham Farm’s Activities Coordinator.
Jess has built strong relationships with the residents who visit her. “I have a wonderful rapport with the residents, and they are always interested in the variety of treatments I offer. They enjoy trying new things and love picking out different colours of nail varnishes to try for their manicures and find the spa music I play very relaxing too,” said Jess. With its serene and calming atmosphere, the Log Cabin is ideal for Jess to use as her beauty salon. “The residents absolutely love the ambience and atmosphere of the salon,” added Jess. “They always remark what a relaxing and welcoming place it is. With its neutral colours, soft music, warming blankets, fluffy pillows and a tea and biscuit station, the residents never miss out on booking their appointments, they love them.”
The residents love to have a good chat whilst they are relaxing and enjoying their treatments. “They talk about so many things,” continued Jess. “It’s absolutely fascinating to hear their stories. Learning about each resident, their childhoods, family, friends and even war time tales, is really interesting and uplifting – and some residents do like to share the care home gossip with me, which is hilarious, but as they say, ‘What’s said in the Salon, Stays in the Salon’.”
Jess, who offers a wide and varied range of treatments, says that the residents’ favourites are manicures and facials. “For everyone, especially older people, regular facials offer significant benefits which help to address any aging skin issues or concerns such as reduced elasticity and dryness,” added Jess. “Older people can also benefit from regular manicures. As we age our nails can get more brittle or thicker and harder to manage ourselves. Having a manicure which gives you beautiful, well-groomed and clean nails, helps older people’s self-esteem, making them more confident and happier,” continued Jess.
“I absolutely adore visiting Little Bramingham Farm, chatting with the residents and making them feel extra special,” said Jess. “Working out of the comfortable and peaceful beauty salon in the Log Cabin is the happiest I have been. The residents’ stories and their happiness during and after their treatments really makes my day. I am so happy that I am involved with, and part of, the Little Bramingham Farm family.”
“Having the care home’s weekly beauty salon – which is fully accessible – and being able to utilise it for such lovely, serene activity is wonderful. It’s a great community initiative too as Jess also offers appointments to our neighbours and the local community as well. It’s such an inclusive addition to our existing wide range of activities, which benefits not only the residents – but is something for our local community to use and enjoy as well,” concluded Emma.
