At 10 a.m. on Friday 6th March, the care team at New Copford Place, our Colchester-based residential care home, is excited to be launching its new, free community initiative – Friends Connect. “Friends Connect is our new monthly programme of supportive events and activities for older people and the people who support them,” said Daniel Sabau, the Registered Manager at New Copford Place. “It brings members of the local community into our home for welcoming, relaxed coffee mornings with activities, games, quizzes and practical, informative sessions such as talks on topics including Lasting Power of Attorney and dementia care.
“Friends Connect will take place at 10 a.m. on the first Friday of every month, and alongside delicious homemade cakes, tasty nibbles, warming refreshments – and of course, great company – for our launch, we have activities and games taking place for everyone to enjoy and a paw-some visit from Essex Therapy Dogs,” added Chelsey Leather, the Activities Coordinator at the care home.
“Two Poodles and a Cockapoo, Honey, Ruby and Hector have been regular visitors to New Copford Place since June 2024,” continued Chelsey. “The three adorable dogs are firm favourites with the residents, who all look forward to their regular visits, and it’s great that they will be with us for the launch of Friends Connect. After Honey, Ruby and Hector have done the ‘not to be missed’ visits to the residents in their bedrooms, they will be playing with the rest of the residents and our guests in our communal areas, bringing lots of smiles and having lots of cuddles and fusses.”
“Friends Connect will bring additional benefits to the residents and the older people who come along and join us, as they will not only provide a great social interaction, which will enhance mental wellbeing, but also cultivate a sense of belonging,” continued Daniel.
“Friends Connect will also be an ideal opportunity for members of the Copford and Colchester communities, visitors, potential residents or respite guests and residents’ family members to pop in, enjoy a free warming cup of coffee and a tasty treat, take part in our inclusive and fun planned activities and talks, plus catch up with old friends and make new connections too,” added Chelesy.
No booking is required to attend Friends Connect at New Copford Place – the care’s home’s doors will be open and the care team ready to welcome guests on the first Friday of the month with fresh coffee, nibbles and activities ready from 10 a.m.
“We are all looking forward to making new friends and acquaintances, seeing old friends, meeting members of our local community, our neighbours, and catching up with our residents’ relatives and loved ones on Friday 6th March at our first Friends Connect at New Copford Place,” concluded Daniel.
