Valentine’s Day at Little Bramingham Farm, perfect in every way

At Little Bramingham Farm, our Luton-based residential care home, the residents have had wonderfully perfect time celebrating this year’s Valentine’s Day. “This Valentine’s Day, we wanted to do something a bit different,” said Emma Lawrance, the Registered Manager at Little Bramingham Farm.

“We recognise and understand that for the residents who are Widowers, Widows or single, the 14th of February can evoke and reawaken intense feelings of loss and unhappiness, bringing back memories of those important people they have lost. So, to make sure everyone was involved and happily motivated, we focused the day on the friendships and laughter within the care home and, creativity, culinary delights, and, of course, chocolate.”

“To start the inclusive, cheery celebrations, we held our Perfect Pottery event,” continued Karen Charity, the Activities Coordinator at Little Bramingham Farm. “The residents let loose their artistic imaginations and painted beautiful pottery items including coasters and heart-shaped ornaments, which are now proudly on display in their bedrooms. “Painting pottery is an excellent activity for the residents as it brings a combination of therapeutic, social, and physical benefits that can help to enhance wellbeing as well as being a lovely gentle, low-impact and creative outlet,” added Emma.

“The creativity and physicality involved in pottery painting can improve an individual’s cognitive function, help to improve motor skills, reduce stress and anxiety, bring a sense of achievement as well as being a wonderfully, social interaction,” said Karen. The residents then had a very special chocolatey surprise. “Following the success of the residents’ previous chocolate making master class with Chocolatier, Aaron Kenny from TNS Catering, we arranged for him to return for a Valentine’s session,” added Emma. “The residents were over the moon to see Aaron again and wasted no time in getting their chocolate making skills to work. Their creations were shaped like hearts and flowers and each delicious piece was lovingly made with such care.”

The residents also enjoyed a fantastic three-course Valentine’s Day meal, specially created by our Chef, Jim Wright. “The residents love all of Jim’s dishes but are particularly fond of his amazing Fillet Steak dinners” continued Karen. “Knowing this, Jim prepared a restaurant experience for them to make the day extra special.”

The residents enjoyed a beautiful seafood starter of Prawn Cocktail, which was followed by Jim’s outstanding Fillet Steak, served with Paprika Potato Wedges, Mushrooms, Onions and Grilled Tomatoes. The meal was rounded off with homemade Strawberry Tart with Cream

“Valentine’s Day was simply perfect in every way. The residents had a great time, showing their creative flares, sharing their handmade chocolates, and enjoying the delicious Valentine’s meal. It was a day filled with laughter, joy, and happiness – the love really was all around,” concluded Emma.
