On Tuesday 10th March from 2 p.m, Friends Place, is hosting a special afternoon, totally dedicated to Carers who support and care for members of the local community. “As a charity which is dedicated to providing exceptional care and has been supporting older people for over 100 years, we totally appreciate that Carers give 110% every day and pour their hearts and solus into enriching the lives of those the support and care for,” said Alina Gutu, the General Manager at Friends Place.
“With this in mind, we are hosting our first Care for Carers afternoon where Carers can come along, relax and enjoy a mini massage in one of our spacious and welcoming Lounges and indulge in some tasty nibbles and refreshments too.”
“To enable Carers to attend with those they care for, we will have a range of activities going on at the same time for their client, patient, loved one or care recipient to enjoy,” continued Elisha Hall-Jones, the Activities Coordinator at Friends Place. “Activities will include arts and crafts, games, seated exercise and much more. There will be delicious refreshments available, and the residents will also be taking part, so it will also be a lovely interactive, fun and friendly afternoon and our professional and kind care team will be with them at all times.”
“For our first Care for Carers afternoon, we decided on treating attendees to mini massages as whilst massages are relaxing and calming, amongst other things, they alleviate muscle pain and tension, help with mobility, reduce physical fatigue and can help to reduce stress and anxiety,” added Alina.
Caring responsibilities and the physical demands of the role can lead to a Carer developing Caregiver Burnout. Ongoing daily tasks such as lifting, bathing and supporting an individual with their mobility can cause exhaustion and, sometimes, injury’ and emotion strains and interrupted sleep are additional factors. “We hope that our Care for Carers afternoons will support Carers with their essential self-care and, in some small way, help to restore balance to their days. They will be a ‘Reset and Recharge’ and a much need break which they can thoroughly enjoy knowing that the person they care for is enjoying the company of the residents, engaging in a wide variety of activities and being supported and looked after by our caring and professional team.
“The Care for Carers afternoons are not a luxury, they are a necessity to enable Carers to sustain not only their caregiving role and duties but also take time out of their busy days to relax and have some well-earned ‘Me Time’, concluded Alina.
