Friends of the Elderly’s Malvern Day Care, which supports people who are living with dementia and a range of age-related conditions, the clients have had an ‘Eerie-Sistible’ Halloween gift from nine-year-old Lillie Griffiths, the Granddaughter of Mandie Halford, one of the Day Care Assistants at the Service. “As a ‘Boo-Tiful’ Halloween treat, Lillie, who attends Great Malvern Primary School, spent Halloween afternoon with her Nannie and the Day Care clients,” said Shirley Bradley, Friends of the Elderly’s Head of Day Care Service. “It was great of Lillie to give up some of her half-term holiday to come along to Malvern Day Care and even more ‘Fang-Tastic’ that she made each client a hauntingly ‘Spook-Tacular’ Halloween cracker.”
Taking about the artistic ‘In-Spirit-Ation’ behind her Halloween creations, Lillie said: I really like Art and I love to draw, I do it all the time. I was watching some Crackers being made online when I was visiting my Nannie. I showed them to her and said they would be great for her to take to work for the clients. “We’d been chatting about Halloween, and what activities and games she had planned, so I said I’d love to make some Halloween Crackers and go with her to give them out to everyone.” Lillie used the cardboard insides of toilet rolls, popped a Halloween Treat inside each one then wrapped them with orange paper. “My Nannie had to help me tie the ends of each cracker with ribbons as I found that part a bit tricky, once the crackers were all shaped and tied, I decorated each one with a Halloween sticker to make them extra spooky.”
Mandie, Lillie’s Nannie, who has worked for us since 2017, added: “I’m so proud of Lillie. She is very artistic and so kind and caring. She worked very hard on each cracker, spending time making sure each Halloween handmade ‘Creep-ation’ was perfect. “When we got to the Day Care, Lillie chatted to each client and delivered their Halloween cracker. The clients adored them; it really was the ‘Treat’ – not ‘Trick’ – to their Halloween celebrations.”
“I love Halloween,” continued Lillie. “It’s one of my favourite times as I like to watch the Halloween music videos and films. It’s such fun to dress up as well to go Trick or Treating. I went out Trick or Treating with my Mum and Sister and think I’ll have enough sweets and chocolate to last me until Christmas.”
“Everyone at Malvern Day Care was so pleased to receive one of Lillie’s Halloween crackers, it was so kind of her to take the time to make each one and come along to the day care service and spend time with us all,” concluded Shirley.
