At Little Bramingham Farm, our Luton-based residential care home, now has a specially allocated respite room which can be booked for short or long term stays throughout the year. Talking about the deluxe respite accommodation, Emma Lawrance, the Registered Manager at Little Bramingham Farm said “To continue to meet the needs of the older people and their carers within our local community, we have a specific bookable, designated respite room at the care home. Located on the ground floor with beautiful views of our pretty gardens, the respite room has been designed with comfort, safety and luxury in mind to ensure that each respite guest has an enjoyable, relaxing and engaging time whilst staying with us.”
Respite breaks bring many benefits for both the respite guests and their carers. “For carers, devoting themselves to caring for an elderly parent, relative or loved one is a full time, full on job. By giving the person they care for a respite break it gives the carer time to put on the brakes and recharge their batteries. In addition, carers could experience ‘caring burnout’. This could lead to increased anxiety, depression, feelings of isolation, relationship issues, stress and diminished physical and emotional wellbeing. A respite break gives the opportunity for a well-earned break, but with peace of mind that the person you care for is being looked after by a professional and compassionate team,” continued Emma.
“By spending time at Little Bramingham Farm on a respite break, the respite guest can enjoy a change of scenery, make new friends, take part in our varied and engaging activities, try things they may not have had the chance or opportunity to do before and, be happy and safe in the knowledge they are giving their carer some time off,” added Karen Charity, the Activities Coordinator at Little Bramingham Farm.
“Our respite guests have told us how much they enjoy spending time with us, being in a new place, with new surroundings and mixing and socialising with a variety of people they may not normally get to meet. One guest said that she loved her stay as it was like being on holiday in a country bed and breakfast.”
Prior to accepting a respite break booking, Emma will visit each individual in person, get to know them and undertake a needs assessment to ensure everyone’s bespoke needs can be met.
“A respite break is not just for a few hours off so a carer can walk the dog, or even a day so they can pop to the shops, it’s much more. Alongside our respite room, we also offer a range of respite options which are tailored to meet individual needs. This means we can take on a carer’s caring role allowing them to focus on themselves and also make sure the respite guest has a wonderful time whilst they are with us,” concluded Emma.
