The Care Team at Bernard Sunley, celebrated Friends of the Elderly 120th Anniversary this year, with a fantastic summertime BBQ party for the residents, their family and friends – and clients from Woking Day Care, which is located next-door to the care home in Smiles Place.
“We have a great relationship with the Day Care Team and all share an ongoing commitment to keeping all those we support and care for active, motivated, healthy and engaged,” said Andy Cumper, the Registered Manager at Bernard Sunley.
In the morning prior to the summer party, Bernard Sunley’s Care Team hosted one of its regular, twice weekly, free Community Coffee Mornings. “Every Monday and Wednesday morning, in our bright and airy Smiles Café from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., we host a free Community Coffee Morning,” continued Andy.
“Clients from the Day Care Centre pop in and join the residents, and members of our local community, for a tasty cup of coffee and, of course, a delicious cake or pastry. Since we have been running the Community Coffee Mornings, it’s been great to see existing friendships grow and bloom, and new friendships begin between the residents and day care clients.”
“The day care clients love to join the residents for as many events and activities as possible,” added Fran. “One of the most popular activities we run with Bernard Sunley is the monthly Challenge Cup game of Family Fortunes.”
“Each month, we join forces with the Bernard Sunley Care Team and recreate the famous family TV game show for the residents and clients to enjoy. It has become quite competitive, but fantastic fun. The teams work together to correctly answer as many of the open-ended survey questions as possible, with the winning team taking the coveted Challenge Cup.”
“The activities we run for the residents and day care clients are varied and tailored to each individuals’ likes, preferences, favourite pastimes and hobbies,” added Monika.
Alongside a delicious BBQ and refreshing drinks, the residents, day care clients and their guests, enjoyed a great musical performance by Billy Clayton, who regularly visits Bernard Sunley to entertain and serenade the care home audience.
“We always try to ensure that there is something for everyone to take part in and enjoy – and the Summertime BBQ Party was a resounding success as everyone had a wonderful time, said and Monika Ahmed, Bernard Sunley’s Activity Coordinator.
“Everyone had a really marvellous time at our Summertime BBQ Party. It is just one, small example of how the care teams at Bernard Sunley and Woking Day Care are dedicated to providing exceptional care to support those we support and care for, every day,” concluded Andy.
