2024 December highlights from our care homes and services

Across our care homes and services, residents had a wonderful time enjoying a mixture of fun activities and celebrations last month. Here are our 2024 December highlights:

2024 December highlights: A stock image of an older woman smiling. You can help us make a difference to older people this winter

Last year we distributed grants worth £58,000 to help older people stay warm and safe during the coldest months. One of these grant recipients was Iris, 73. She told us:

“I can only thank God for what Friends of the Elderly did for me. They were amazing, they gave me £400 for heating oil. Without that I’d be stuffed. I am eternally grateful.”

A donation today can help older people like Iris, who have nowhere else to turn for help. You can read more about the impact of your donations on our website.

A picture of the winning Christmas tree. Congratulations to our #ShareYourTree winner

This year, we asked our supporters to #ShareYourTree and help bring Christmas cheer to our residents and service users, who loved looking at everyone’s beautiful trees. It was a very difficult vote, as all trees submitted were absolutely stunning, but the results are in and our #ShareYourTree winner is.. our very own Jenny Griffiths! Residents selected her tree without knowing it was hers. Well done Jenny, and well done and thank you to everyone who sent us a beautiful tree picture. Merry Christmas!

Fundraiser’s charity single a contender for the Christmas number one

We are delighted that the talented filmmaker and musician, Sam Clegg, is fundraising for Friends of the Elderly again this year, via his heart-warming song and video, ‘Send Me A Sign’.

Sam is passionate about raising awareness and support for older people who are isolated and struggling, which he has demonstrates through his amazing new song and video.

You can watch the video on YouTube here or download the song via iTunes or Amazon, the proceeds of the song will go towards helping older people feel less alone this winter. Thank you Sam!
